Hog’s Back Bees produces our own pure beeswax form our bee farming activities. The bee frames have a typical life of two to four seasons after which they are scrapped and the wax is rendered by steam extractions which yields crude beeswax and a left over product called slum gum, which is essentially left over cocoon cases. Slum gum is a good plant fertilizer.
The crude beeswax is graded and further refined into a high purity wax that is suitable for candle making. Only high quality wax is suitable for candle making as impurities collect around the wick and lead to flaring of the candle flame.
Other uses for the beeswax include furniture (wood) polish, gun stock polish, shoe polish and soap making. We can supply crude and pure beeswax in slab quantities. We also produce 30g bars of beeswax
